Our Story

Our co-founders, Rui Ma and Karthik Sridharan, created Kinnek for the small and medium-sized business community. We're on a journey to empower hard-working business owners by helping them save time and be more informed when making purchase decisions, so they can focus on their products and customers rather than vetting the trustworthiness of suppliers.

We started out by helping small businesses get multiple custom quotes from great suppliers. As the volume of quotes grew on Kinnek, we learned that there was so much more we could do to support our community of users. Since then, we’ve expanded our offerings to include a variety of tools that help both small business owners and suppliers be more successful.

Our Journey

2012

  • Kinnek connects its first-ever small business customer with suppliers. Ventimiglia Vineyard sources sodium percarbonate on Kinnek – the first in a long line of hundreds of thousands of businesses that will use Kinnek over the years.
  • Kinnek raises $3 million in seed funding from some of the best-known technology investors in Silicon Valley.

2013

  • Kinnek opens its first office on Madison Avenue in New York City.
  • Kinnek’s proprietary product categorization system is born, which enables easy comparison of custom products and quotes. The system is still in use today.
  • 300 suppliers and 6,300 small businesses join Kinnek.

2014

  • 800 suppliers and 10,000 small businesses join Kinnek.
  • Kinnek raises $10 million in Series A financing, led by Matrix Partners.

2015

  • Kinnek handles more than $1 billion in quotes in a single year for the first time.
  • Kinnek raises $20 million in Series B financing, led by Thrive Capital.

2016 - 2017

  • "Kinnek Pay" launches – a secure B2B payments engine that enables suppliers to seamlessly collect payments from their customers via Kinnek.
  • “Kinnek Re-order” launches – a unique toolkit that helps businesses manage recurring orders and existing supplier relationships through Kinnek.
  • Kinnek is named one of the 2017 Red Herring Top 100 Most Innovative Companies in North America.

2018

  • "Kinnek Catalog" launches – an innovative B2B catalog that redefines how e-commerce works for businesses.
  • "Kinnek Visibility" launches – a game-changing feature that enables suppliers to receive premium rankings within the Kinnek catalog as well as customer insights.
  • "Kinnek Reputation" launches – a state-of-the-art online profile for B2B suppliers that helps them easily share third-party, objective reputation information with prospective customers.
  • Kinnek is named one of Crain’s Top 100 Best Companies to Work For in New York.
