I generally agree with the Kinnek Knowledge Team's answer, except for the hybrid espresso/drip coffee machine. Not only are the commercial versions expensive, but generally inefficient for high-volume demand. It really comes down to knowing the demand for what type of drinks in your cafe, and basing your equipment purchases around that. Feel free to give us a call if you'd like to talk through it-many of us here have worked in/managed coffee shops and cafes-and we have some practical tips for you on what equipment will fit your workflow while on a budget.

As you indicated, incorporating espresso drinks onto your menu will require specialized espresso-making equipment, so depending on how limited your budget is, you may not want to do so. On the other hand, if you don't already have a coffee machine, it's worth considering a hybrid espresso/drip coffee machine so that you don't have to purchase two separate pieces of equipment. Further, if you expect that there will be a high volume of coffee drinks being served during busy periods, an espresso machine can be useful for efficiency-purposes as espresso brews much faster than coffee.
