There are several things you can do to keep your cutting boards in good shape.  Consider the following...

1) Make sure you do not store your cutting boards when wet.  Make sure they are dry when you store them, to prevent bacterial growth.
2) Unless your cutting board is explicitly dishwasher-safe, don't put them in the dishwasher.  The high heat of the machine (and chemicals) can damage your cutting boards.
3) Clean your cutting boards with warm water, not with hot water.  Hot water may cause damage to the surface.
4) Consider adding a finish to your wooden cutting boards to prevent bacterial contamination.  Bacteria can grow beneath the surface of the wood (after cuts have been made in the wood), so a finish/coating can prevent this growth.
