How do I add an oak or rye flavor to my stout?

Adding an oak or rye flavor to your stout is actually fairly simple.  Just replace a portion of the barley malt (between 10-20%) with the grain, malted or unmalted, flaked or non-flaked.  Just be aware that oats and rye can gum a mash up, so if you'd like to avoid gumming the mash, make sure to lauter slowly.
