No one checks McDonalds review, because they already know what to expect.

Locals have to be 10 times better than the chains and keep a 4 or 5 star review to get customers from TripAdvisor or Yelp, whereas McDonalds or TacoBell can operate just fine and busy as ever with 1 star.

Also, locals have to put up with their competition giving them false reviews. Why does this happen? I guess its just instinct to try to drown your competition. Maybe the major chains pick on the locals too. Who knows. It happens.

Ask your customers or have your staff ask them, "How was your meal?" at checkout. They will tell you there if something was overcooked, undercooked, or not seasoned well. It is good for them to get it off their chest before they get home and write a bad review. They won't. You will have already corrected the problem.

If they enjoyed their meal, encourage them to leave a review for you on Yelp and TripAdvisor. You can put QR codes at your counter, on your cards, and links on your facebook and website to make the review process easy as ever.

There are a number of ways to garner more Yelp reviews. Really, it's only limited by your imagination. A few time-tested ways of generating some additional Yelp traffic, however: 1) work with Yelp to post yelp-exclusive coupons; 2) post an official Yelp sticker near the front of your restaurant so that customers are reminded of your presence on the platform; and 3) respond to reviews posted on Yelp (both positive and negative).
