Many third-party manufacturers produce electronic card readers for less than $50 or so it's actually very affordable from an initial cost perspective, assuming you own a smartphone or a tablet. The card reader connects via the usb or audio jack of your smart device. When connected, you can access various mobile point-of-sale process services (each of which has their own fees and requirements). As an example, two big players in the mobile point-of-sale market are Square and PayPal.
