Is there a practical difference between punted bottles vs flat-bottomed ones? Or is it purely an aesthetic thing?

The "punt" or dimple at the bottom of some wine bottles is stylistic, but not purely aesthetic. Punts at the bottom of bottles make them less likely to tip over in the event of imperfections or deformations in the base. In addition, punted bottles are easier to hold and pour single-handed.

Bottles are priced by weight. Flat bottom bottles are least expensive, mid punt bottles are middle priced and full punt bottles are most expensive. Usually, more punt, more bottle weight.
