Is it worth recovering beer trapped in the yeast cake?

Most commercial breweries don't actually bother recovering the ruh beer that remains trapped in the yeast cake.  Even though recovering ruh beer can significantly reduce beer losses in a larger brewing operation (and reduces effluent), the problem is that the beer quality may suffer since the ruh beer may be negatively affected by contact with the autolysis process (dead yeast cells).
