This is a really subjective question - in other words, there is no right or wrong answer, as the decision will depend on what flavor profile youâ??re interested in developing (and how you want the wine to look). Adding fining agents to wine can clarify the wine (make it look polished) by removing suspended solids in the wine, but some winemakers choose not to use fining agents, as aging can add clarity to the wine by itself over the course of months.

On the other hand, fining agents can help remove bad odors, excessive bitter flavoring, and more. Your choice will thus depend on whether you can naturally resolve your flavor profile, or whether you would rather tinker with the flavor using fining agents. Certainly, it is true that using fining agents will grant you greater control over the winemaking process - but whether you need that level of control is a decision youâ??ll have to make on your own after considering your process and the intended flavor/body/look of your wine.
