What are the benefits of using a cast iron wok? All I really know is that they’re the “standard”.

That's generally correct - cast iron woks are the standard for woks, and for good reason. Cast iron woks are not necessarily easy to maintain or use. They have a tendency to rust unless you can keep on top of seasoning and maintenance, and they can be heavy, depending on the thickness of course (thick cast iron woks can be unwieldy for unfamiliar users!). On the other hand, cast iron woks absorb flavor very well, and retain high and even heat. In fact, the flavor absorption (plus the generally fast cooking times involved in wok frying) lead to a unique taste that customers associate with authentic wok cooking.
