Offering a growler or growlette at your brew pub with your name is a good start. Some folks go back to the pub to refill and others may take to other locations to fill. end result is the growler is making its way around to be filled.

I've worked with enough breweries on their merchandise now to know that there is really only one good answer to this question: make good beer (or in your case, good food and beer).

That is ultimately 95% of the equation. Of course, just because your merchandise is 5% doesn't mean that it should be neglected. Come up with a unique brand, and have that brand stand for something. I have clients that stress a traditional, "outdoorsy" theme - and so their merchandise is wooden, recyclable, and eco-friendly. Others integrate scientific or technological themes into their brewery - they lean towards stainless steel and utility in their merchandise.

The point is that the two should match - and actually mean something.

But in the end, focus most of your time on just brewing great beer and find a good promotional products consultant to handle the rest :)

As a marketing consultant I find when trying to brand yourself you should take aim with more than one technique. Growlers and growlettes are a good start but certainly are not the only means to capture your niche in the marketplace. Branded items such as Pint glasses, Caps and T-shirts are very popular ways to get exposure to new clients and allow the patrons who love your beer to show you off. The more ways you can get your name recognized and still turn a profit is the way you will become successful. Feel free to contact us anytime the ACS team is always happy help you find ways to brand yourself and we offer a full line of promotional items.

Growlers are a great way to get your name of there. Other ways would be to host an event and post it on Facebook!

Pens and bumper stickers would be a fast and inexpensive way to get people to come in to your pub. The growlers and the brew pub glasses and t-shirts can be sold once they're in your place, but up until the try bumper stickers and magnets

Being an integral part of the community is one of the keys to success , in our opinion. Hosting, sponsoring, etc. If you are supplying restaurants and pubs, tacker signs are great. News travels fast when you treat your customers right and provide a great product. We do promotional marketing consulting so feel free to contact us.

Useful merchandise, stuff that people will actually USE. Shirts, pens, hats, glassware, growlers, etc. Avoid items like notepads, whistles, frisbees, and things that can easily end up going in the trash.

Everyone loves free stuff! Add your logo to usable products that customers will find value in keeping around. You don't need to spend a fortune. Consider offering reusable cups that customer's can take home, magnetic clips, can or bottle coolies, smart phone wallets (customers put them on their cell phones and can keep their ID or CC handy.) The biggest thing is to make sure it's usable and offers some value and always has your logo. Millenials are a big target audience and studies show that they feel promotional products are the most effective form of advertising!

How would your customers like having their own personal growler with the name etched on the bottle along with your logo and info?

You could do custom etched mugs where each customer (as part of a club) gets their own personalized mug when they come to visit. I've seen places with a wall or two of custom mugs. Makes the customer feel very welcomed.

Don't use bottle openers. People keep them way too long and they might be advertising your brand when they open a different beer. Only the really big beer guys use bottle openers for promotions, even though none of their bottles require an opener.

A good product always sells itself! Promotional apparel is always a good way to promote your product, especially if you can give away items for free through a contest, etc. Have a grand opening with a local media group who can build it up for a couple weeks, giveaway promotional items for those who attend and try samples of the food or brews. Make sure the items look good, no one wants to wear a free item if they look bad!

A ceramic growler is attractive and popular because it looks like an older jug and also has a variety of new decorative styles since its made with ceramics and not glass. Craft beer lovers seem to like handcrafted pieces that are unique and not mass produced.

Giveaways! Be it bottle openers, key chains, pint glasses, anything to get your brand out there. The old "take your glass with you for an additional dollar" is a great way to get yourself noticed.
