The major advantage of working with a rent per trip company is that you don't have to worry about getting that keg back from the field. The disadvantages are that you do not know what was in that keg before it arrives at your brewery and over the live of a keg you will pay for that service enough to buy that keg over eight times.

There are pros and cons to every service available. While owning your own kegs you can amortize the cost over time. That shows great benefit in a perfect world where kegs are not damaged or lost (i.e. you repair the kegs yourself, and frequently have to repurchase your float.).

Keg Management allows a company to save time, money, and eliminate headaches through a few different avenues.

1) You don't need max warehouse space for storing kegs during non-peak season. This space can be used for ROI activities (i.e. fermenter, brite tank, more pub room space)
2) You do not spend the human capital on tracking kegs from distributors. The management company does this for you.
3) No more headaches from working with deposits, the management company does that for you as well.

The most value is seen in a Pay-Per-Fill program once distributors are involved for brewers. As turn rates get slower and the probability of loss goes up, a keg management company mitigates those and many other issues.

There are certain advantages to a "pay per fill" model of keg management if you are shipping your beer vast distances ( e.g. across the country) as you do not have to worry about getting the keg back.

However, on a local or even regional level, maintaining your own keg fleet can be dramatically more cost effective, while providing you with the knowledge and assurance that your product is being delivered in a clean, well maintained container. We are actively leasing kegs of all sizes, allowing you to reap the benefits of ownership without the large capital expenditure.

You will amortize the cost of the keg over the entire life span of the keg. This will return you the lowest possible unit cost.
