Flagged bristle brooms are great for sweeping fine dust and smaller sized debris, since the bristles are frayed at the ends. This frayed aspect helps the bristles pick up smaller and finer particulate matter. Unflagged bristles, on the other hand, are not frayed at the ends, and thus are better for larger sized particulate matter (and are better for sweeping larger areas).
