Start up costs will vary widely depending on the side and scope of the dairy farm. It’s estimated that a young dairy farmer can get started with as little as $175,000, which will buy 50 or 60 cows, some replacement heifers, cover start-up costs to rent land and milking facilities, initial feed costs and minimal machinery purchases.
